It started out as a harmless hobby. I had no idea it would come to this!

A wooden roller tool with a black handle on red patterned fabric.

This is one of our members favorite tools. You can buy it at Home Depot in the paint department. She says, It’s great for creasing fabric or pressing seams when I feel too lazy to get up and iron them."

Have trouble holding your long ruler in place? Put a 5-pound weight on the end of your ruler and it’s like having a third hand.

toilet paper holder

Helen F. was featured on the Fons and Porter show for this suggestion. Attach a toilet paper holder to your sewing machine table.  Wind your binding on the spool and it unrolls as you are sewing.  You could also attach the holder to a piece of wood and lay it on the floor near your machine.  Either way, no more binding dragging on the floor.

Wobble cushion

Have back problems after sitting at your machine all day?    A Wobble Cushion gives our member a few extra inches of height at her sewing machine, plus keeps her back loose. She can comfortably sew much longer now than before.  Available on the Internet.

porcupine Quill

toilet paper holder

This is really unique! One of our members uses a porcupine quill as a stylus to push fabric under her sewing machine foot and to “poke things”. (It is strong enough to go through animal hides, it is strong enough for our use.)  Search for Porcupine Quills on eBay. They come in all sizes.

Red snapper solution

This hand made wooden tool was originally used by tailors.  Our quilter now uses it to press seams when seams are close. When you want one seam to press one way and the other seam (1" away) to press the other way.  A perfect tool to complete the task.
